History of Fire Prevention Week (FPW)

Fire Prevention Week starts on the Sunday and ends on the Saturday that October 9th Falls. The first Fire Prevention Week was in 1925. Why October 9th? To remember the Great Chicago Fire, that began on October 8th and continued into the following day.

Instead of recognizing that date with festivities, organizations decided to educate communities on fire prevention and education. Each year has a new message or focus. The message of 2017’s Fire Prevention Week is “Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out!”

History of the Original Inflatable Fire Education House

Boulder Blimp Company worked with the City of Lafayette Fire Department to  design and create the first Inflatable Fire Education House in 2008.

Our Mission- Providing Fire Departments the chance to interact with and educate their community on Fire Safety.

The Design- Our house has three rooms that children walk through and learn the importance of fire alarms, fire prevention, establishing a fire escape plan throughout a home and what to do if there is a fire.

Fire Stations showcase their fire education house at schools, town events, and have specific days during Fire Prevention Week for kids to stop by and meet their local Firefighters.

This year’s message will work perfectly with Boulder Blimp Company’s Inflatable Fire Education House. There is an “entrance” and an “exit” on our models and the kids end the demonstration by climbing up a ramp to exit out a window onto a landing pad.

Before the exit, their is a banner that goes over the E.D.I.T.H (Exit Drills In The Home). Always remember to communicate with your family a couple of exit strategies in case of a fire. Also, have a gathering place planned once outside of the home and make sure the site you choose is a safe distance away.

Departments I speak to love this aspect of the job. Reason being, if this tool and their time can save one child’s life, it’s worth it. Reach out today to get pricing and learn more about the Inflatable Fire Education House by Boulder Blimp Company.
